Another AKUS fan

Yesterday I pulled out my Allison Krauss and Union Station Live DVD, which Jason got me for Valentine's Day. I have watched it several times, and every time that I put it on Carter gets mad at me because it is not Veggie Tales of Elmo, but not today! He watched and listened to several songs, so maybe he will become a fan just like his mom. You never know, he might be the next Jerry Douglas, Dan Tyminski, or Ron Block!

Twelve On (Almost) Tuesday

I have never done one of these lists before, but we haven't done much lately, so I thought I would post twelve things that most of you don't know about Carter! Some of you will know some of them, but it won't hurt to have a reminder.

1. Carter gives his Dad and I 10 kisses every night before bed. We tried to get him to do 12 tonight, but no way! He knows that our bedtime routine requires only 10.

2. Carter loves the concrete on the back pad. He can pick up some pretty big rocks, but then he tries to throw them above his head!

3. Carter gets very upset when his hands get dirty. When we are outside he will run up to us with his dirty hands out and say "oh, no! oh, no!" until we wipe them off.

4. We all know that Carter loves Veggie Tales, but he also thinks that every character on the TV show has the same name- Bob.

5. Carter reminds us to pray at night if we forget. He says "pway, pway" and pulls our heads down to pray.

6. Carter tries to get me to brush his teeth EVERY time we go to the bathroom. He stands in front of the sink and repeats "teeth" over and over until we leave.

7. When he goes down at night, Carter sleeps with a red heart shaped pillow with two puppies on it that Miss Tina gave him for Valentine's Day.

8. I have to put him in his high chair to cut his toe nails because his feet are so ticklish that he can't control himself otherwise.

9. We always sing "Wheels on the Bus" when we cut his fingernails. His Aunt Kim used to do this with Zane, and it works every time with Carter!

10. We are growing cherry tomatoes for Carter this summer. I estimate that it will save us $100 a month on tomatoes for him. =)

11. Carter loves to smell candles in stores. When we walk past them, he insists on smelling every different scent. He also loves to smell all of the spices in our cabinets! Everyday when I am in the kitchen, we end up emptying the spice shelf so that he can smell everything. At least I now know what we have, and I won't end up with three different containers of cinnamon!

12. No matter what has happened during the day, he is the sweetest boy in the world when I rock him to sleep.

Carter's Hiking Adventure

Since it was such nice weather last night, we decided to take a little walk at Craighead Forest Park. My parents gave us a great backpack that Carter rides in while we walk. He loves it- I think he really likes the fact that he is taller than both of us when he is in it!

When we got to Rotary Way, we thought we would take one of Jason's running trails, but we soon discovered that it was too muddy so we turned around. There was a trail that appeared to take a higher road, so we started out on it to check out some more of the park. Most trails in the park are very short and easy, so we didn't think anything about it. However, as we went further into the forest, we realized that we were on the XTerra Ironman trail! It is a really neat trail, and we got to see a lot of squirrels, birds, and some pretty plants. We also got to jump a brook about 10 times, which is pretty ironic since we turned back on the first trail because it was muddy! We finally had to go off the trail to the road so that we could get back to the car before dark. Our little walk around the park turned into an hour and a half hike, but we had a great time!

Jason & Nikki's 10th Anniversary

Hello everyone! I know that this is Carter's blog, but I thought that I would post a few photos of his 2 favorite people and our 10th anniversary trip. We went to Collierville, TN, which is a small town on the other side of Memphis with a beautiful and historic downtown area. Some of the azaleas were blooming, and of course the dogwoods and the cherry trees were in full bloom. We had a great time shopping, walking the nature trails, and eating too much, but we were very ready to come home and pick up our boy from Papaw Mark's!

Iron Chef Carter

When I am in the kitchen, Carter likes to know what is going on. He will move one of our kitchen chairs over to the countertop and watch me work. Sometimes he gets to help by stirring the batter or pressing down the biscuit cutter.

Today with the nasty weather we decided to bake! We used our apple cake mix from Tastefully Simple (shameless advertisement for Lori). As I cut up the apples, Carter tried to eat the apple peel and he did help me clean up the apples by eating the last part of the apple after we had our two cups chopped up. It was great fun and we have a very tasty cake for afternoon snack!

So Many Books, So Little Time

For those of you who don't know, Carter loves books! I thought that I would let you see his private library of books that he peruses everyday- it looks even more impressive when he dumps them all out on the floor, which he did about 5 minutes after I took the picture.

Last night, Jason and I read 19 books to him, which was just getting started to Carter! We have read until we are hoarse, but he still wants more. Honestly we love the fact that he loves books, so I guess he comes by it honestly.
Hmmm...maybe we should go to the library tomorrow!
